What is the Arts Award?

Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents: it's creative, valuable and accessible.

More information can be found on their website.

What are we hoping to achieve?

We are developing a self-led Arts Award activity. This is to engage with more families and young people, encouraging children to actively look at art, participate in creative activities, and share their discoveries. The emphasis here is on a child’s individual journey and not about reaching a certain level of artistic skill. It is also about learning together and enjoying a shared experience as a family or with friends.

Our two trial sessions are to test out our logbook (between an activity book and a museum trail) that evidences what has been discovered on the trip. We want to find out how easy and enjoyable it was for families and make changes based on your feedback. Trial 1 (2 Mar) will have a draft logbook and Trial 2 (23 Mar) will be with an improved one - the activities should be the same with some amendments to presentation, instructions and delivery.

Who are we looking for?

All children participating, who complete all sections of the logbook to a satisfactory level and who meet the age criteria, will receive an official Arts Award certificate from Trinity College.

Hopefully your children and yourselves will learn something new, stretch your creativity, and enjoy talking and sharing ideas together.

What will you do on the day?

1. Visit the museum, between 10:00-12:00 on either trial session morning. You will need to spend a minimum of one hour to complete the logbook.

2. A member of staff will greet you and give instructions on how to use your logbook, plus some drawing materials.

3. Explore the museum to complete the activities and then hand in the logbook. These are kept at the Museum to be marked.

4. Share your experience with our staff - we would like feedback from both adults and children.

5. Return to the museum to collect your child's certificate when notified - this will be a minimum of 6 weeks.
