If you have a love of history or art and have some spare time to give, we would love to hear from you! We’re always on the lookout for volunteers to help us tell the story of Peterborough’s fascinating history and heritage.


There are many of options to choose from when volunteering at Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery, from assisting with guided tours, workshops & events, learning & schools, to working with the collections team, to research and care for our extensive collections. Volunteers will also be the first to hear about exciting opportunities to get involved with and work alongside Museum professionals on upcoming projects & exhibitions.

Exhibition Steward Volunteer

We are looking for enthusiastic and confident volunteers to help us welcome visitors to Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery, specifically manning our upcoming and exciting new Adventures in Time and Space exhibition.

Squires Coffee House Volunteer

We are looking for enthusiastic and confident volunteers with a “can do” attitude to support Squires coffee house in ensuring our visitors enjoy their coffee and cake!

As part of the team, you will be involved in the meeting & greeting of visitors and ensuring the coffee shop is kept clean and tidy at all times.

Heritage Helping Hands

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are team players, with an eye for detail, willingness to learn and be aware of relevant health and safety issues, and good level of physical fitness. Experience or an interest in craft/trade is desired as this is a hands on role.

As a helping hands volunteer you will get to see areas of the Museum that are usually off limits to members of the public and see behind the scenes of upcoming exhibitions, as you assist with their installation.
