If you have a love of history or art and have some spare time to give, we would love to hear from you! We’re always on the lookout for volunteers to help us tell the story of Peterborough’s fascinating history and heritage.


There are many of options to choose from when volunteering at Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery, from assisting with guided tours, workshops & events, learning & schools, to working with the collections team, to research and care for our extensive collections. Volunteers will also be the first to hear about exciting opportunities to get involved with and work alongside Museum professionals on upcoming projects & exhibitions.

Heritage Helping Hands

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are team players, with an eye for detail, willingness to learn and be aware of relevant health and safety issues, and good level of physical fitness. Experience or an interest in craft/trade is desired as this is a hands on role.

As a helping hands volunteer you will get to see areas of the Museum that are usually off limits to members of the public and see behind the scenes of upcoming exhibitions, as you assist with their installation.

Current Projects

Archaeological Archives

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers with an interest in archaeology and history to join our archaeological archives team.

Volunteers will have the chance to handle real archaeological material and objects rarely seen by the public and to develop their own knowledge and skills with the support of the archaeological archives team.

This volunteer project will assist the archives team in improving the quality, knowledge and accessibility of the archives for researchers and interested members of the public.
