NIGHTMARES ON FILM
Hammer and the British Horror Revolution
Curated in partnership with Marcus Hearn
Why do we seek out fear? Nightmares on Film explores the way changes in society and culture were reflected by films that, in turn, made an impact on our social history. From the Gothic fantasies of Hammer to folk horror classics, this exhibition shows how audiences – and censors – have been confronted with some of their darkest fears.
Rare posters, previously unseen production designs, unique costumes and behind-the-scenes artefacts tell the story of Hammer Films and other influential production companies in an era that changed cinema forever.
