Summer Art Classes

From paper sculpture to watercolours, there's something for everyone. Learn something new this summer and immerse yourself in the joy of art!

For all classes you will be provided with all the materials and equipment you need, but if you have your own please bring them with you on the day.

Lunch and refreshments included. (Peterborough Museum will contact you before the class to discuss any dietary or allergen requirements)

Art Classes

Paper Sculpture - Ann Bellamy
10 Aug, 10am - 3pm


Join professional artist, Ann Bellamy as she takes inspiration from our museum collections in this Paper Sculpture class where you will produce an egg box chicken to take home and that will take pride of place.

You will be provided with all the materials and equipment you need for the class.

Watercolour techniques and textures - David Swinton (For beginners & improvers)
Aug 17, 10am - 3pm

Professional artist from Whittlesey, David Swinton, will lead this class where pupils will be working on heavy-duty, NOT surface paper to learn a number of exciting watercolour techniques, such as wet-in-wet, graded wash, sponged foliage, wax resist and rigger trees. Watercolour is a beautiful medium and learning basic skills helps beginners to progress with this challenging art.

You will be provided with all the materials and equipment you need for the class but if you have your own brushes and paints please bring them with you on the day.

Figurative charcoal drawing - Jim Tovey
24 Aug, 10am - 3pm

Join Jim Tovey and unleash your creativity with charcoal! Working with a model students in this class will look at composition planning, outline mapping to tonal rendering and making the most of charcoals possibilities.

Go light and fine or grab a large lump and get mark-making using this most versatile and primal of mediums.

You will be provided with all the materials and equipment you need for the class.

Painting Trees in watercolours - David Swinton (For beginners & improvers)
Aug 31, 10am - 3pm

Lino printing - Syrah Arnold
7 Sep, 10am - 3pm

Join professional artist Syrah Arnold in a lino-printing session, suitable for beginners to those with experience. Using Peterborough as inspiration, participants are invited to bring a simple image to work from, although Syrah will also have images to hand that people can take inspiration from. Images for inspiration can be pets, people, plants or buildings - to turn in to beautiful and original prints, perfect for Christmas and other occasions!

You will be provided with all the materials and equipment you need for the class but if you have your own please bring them with you on the day.
