Celebrating 50 years since the arrival of Ugandan Asians to the UK and our City

On 4th August 1972 Idi Amin announced that all Ugandan Asians had just 90 days to leave Uganda.

Ugandan Asians became one of the largest groups of refugees ever to be accepted into the UK with almost 40,000 migrants settling here. Peterborough became the first city in the UK to welcome families that were expelled from Uganda. See their stories in this compelling exhibition.

Peterborough Windrush 2022 tells the story of the Peterborough Windrush generation and their families, celebrating their contribution to the city.
