Maruc Suetonius Martinus

Interested in Roman Britain? Here's an opportunity to meet a 1st Century Roman Soldier Maruc Suetonius Martinus, who will talk about his life in the Roman Army.

You can meet Maruc every Tuesday 10am - 1pm, in the First People gallery (1st floor) here at Peterborough Museum, with a rotating set of displays each week -

First Tuesday

Topic:

Roman Weapons and Armour, including a display of replicas for visitors to handle.

Tuesday of the month:

Second Tuesday

Topic:

Roman Military Formations and Tactics, illustrated by a set of Models and Dioramas.

Tuesday of the month:

Third Tuesday

Topic:

Roman Archaeological Finds, including coins and jewellery, for visitors to examine and handle.

Tuesday of the month:

Fourth Tuesday

Topic:

Roman Religion, including an explanation of the Cult of Mithras, popular with the Roman Army.

Get involved with the experience. People of all ages are welcome to try on the replica armour and get a feel for what it's like to be a real-life Roman Soldier.

Marcus is also very knowledgeable on our Roman collections and if asked, can guide visitors through the gallery, explain the various displays and answer questions.
