Turner at 250: Rare Watercolours on Display

This August, we mark the 250th anniversary of J.M.W. Turner’s birth (April) by exhibiting two of his early watercolours of Peterborough Cathedral. These delicate works are rarely shown due to conservation needs, making this a unique opportunity to view them in person.

J.M.W. Turner at 250

Purchased in 1939 by The National Art Collections Fund and presented to the museum, these paintings are part of our permanent collection. They were last displayed internationally at the Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art in Japan during the Turner and the Poetics of Landscape exhibition in 2017/18.

Join us in the Community Gallery from 22 August – 28 September to celebrate one of Britain’s greatest artists and enjoy a glimpse of Turner’s early mastery.
