Arriving at the Museum

Parking

There are no visitor parking facilities available at the Museum & Gallery, except for visitors with access requirements, for more information please see the Accessibility page.

Entrances

Our main entrance is located on Priestgate Street, step free access is available through the staff car park to the right of the main entrance. The City Gallery entrance is located inside the Museum, our reception staff will direct you if you require assistance.

Push Chairs, Bags, & Luggage

The Museum & Gallery does not have a space for leaving personal possessions, please only bring what you can carry with you around the Museum. A limited number of items may be left at reception if space is available. Any items left are left at the owner’s own risk, please talk to our reception team when you arrive to find out if space is available.

Pushchairs can be left in designated zones at the owner’s own risk, please ask at reception to be directed to these areas. Please do not leave pushchairs unattended in corridors or galleries, as this may cause a hazard in the event of an evacuation.

Refreshments

The Museums Café “Squires” is wheelchair accessible and located on the ground floor to the right of the reception and main entrance, please talk to a member of staff if you require assistance. A limited number of children’s high chairs are available for visitor use. Our Café provides a selection of hot and cold refreshments and meal options. We cater for a number of dietary preferences, including vegans, vegetarians and gluten free, more information can be found here. Moving around the Museum

Lifts

Lift access is available to the ground floor, City Gallery, first floor and second floor galleries. The Vaults and Victorian Operating theatre are not accessible by lift or step free access. For researchers visiting the Museum’s collections, lift access to the basement is available.

Access

Our ground floor, first floor and second floor galleries, the gift shop and café are wheelchair accessible. The Vaults and Victorian Operating theatre are not accessible by lift or step free access.

Seating

Benches are located throughout the Museum, Galleries without fixed seating have been provided with folding stools. These stools can be found throughout the galleries, please talk to a member of staff if you require assistance locating these stools.

Evacuation

In the event of a museum evacuation, staff members will direct you safely and quickly from the building and to designated muster points. Evacuation chairs are available to evacuate visitors from the second and first floors. If you would require assistance in the event of an evacuation please inform reception on arrival.

Toilets and changing facilities

Toilets & Baby Changing

Toilets are located on the ground and first floors. The female toilets are located on the ground floor and can be accessed through the Café or Temporary Exhibition Gallery 2. Male toilets are located on the first floor and can be accessed through the Jurassic Gallery.

Unisex accessible toilets with baby changing facilities are located on the ground and first floors next to the female and male toilets.

Changing Places Toilet

The nearest Changing Places Toilet to the Museum is located at the Car Haven Car Park on Bishop’s Road or via St Peter’s Road. This is 500m away from the Museum.

Museum & Art Gallery policies

Food & Drink

Open food & drink may not be drunk, eaten or taken into any of our Gallery spaces. Whilst within the Museum, food & drink is limited to the Café and outside seating areas. A member of staff will request that you leave any food & drink items at reception for the duration of your visit.

Photography

If you would like to take photographs or film during your visit, please talk to a member of staff at reception and complete one of our photographic permission forms.

For commercial photography and filming requests, please email the Museum on Museum@cityculturepeterborough.org.uk please give as much notice as possible so that we can process your requests.
